Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 22, 2026
Red Tape Foundation respects the privacy of people who visit our website, contact us, donate, apply for assistance, participate in a program, volunteer, propose a partnership, subscribe to updates, or otherwise interact with the Foundation.
This Privacy Policy explains the categories of information we may collect, why we collect it, how it may be used or shared, and the choices available to you. It applies to information handled through this website and related Foundation communications. A separate provider, payment processor, training organization, employer-giving platform, or partner may have its own privacy practices.

Who we are
Red Tape Foundation is a California nonprofit public charity. Our programs and developing activities include youth safety education, CPR and First Aid access, training scholarships, community resources, partnerships, volunteering, fundraising, and nonprofit administration.
Questions about this policy may be directed to steven@redtapefoundation.org or (805) 310-4183.
Information you provide
Depending on how you interact with the Foundation, you may provide:
- Your name, email address, telephone number, mailing address, organization, title, or preferred method of contact.
- Information submitted through contact, partnership, volunteer, scholarship, sponsorship, donation, registration, or program-interest forms.
- Information concerning a proposed course, community need, event, organization, participant group, or requested Foundation role.
- Donation, payment, billing, transaction, receipt, refund, and acknowledgment information.
- Communications, attachments, photographs, feedback, questions, correction requests, complaints, or other records you choose to send.
- Information needed to evaluate an application, scholarship request, volunteer role, partnership, sponsorship, or program registration.
- Emergency contacts, permissions, accommodations, accessibility requests, attendance information, or safety-related information when relevant to a confirmed activity.
Please provide only information relevant to the request. Ordinary email and public website forms should not be used to send passwords, complete Social Security numbers, complete payment-card numbers, banking credentials, detailed medical records, or unrelated identity documents.
Information collected automatically
Our website and service providers may automatically receive limited technical information, such as:
- Internet Protocol address.
- Browser, device, operating-system, and language information.
- Date, time, referring page, pages viewed, links selected, and approximate session activity.
- Cookie, analytics, security, fraud-prevention, or similar identifiers.
- Information about errors, performance, attempted misuse, or security events.
Technical information may be used to operate the website, understand general traffic patterns, improve accessibility and usability, measure outreach, identify errors, prevent fraud, and protect the website and its users.
Analytics, advertising measurement, and cookies
The Foundation may use analytics or advertising-measurement tools to understand whether public educational and charitable outreach is reaching appropriate audiences. These tools may use cookies or similar technologies.
Analytics data should not be interpreted as a confirmed participant, donor, volunteer, scholarship recipient, or program outcome. A page view, advertisement click, form opening, or website session is an online interaction rather than proof that a person received a service.
Your browser may allow you to block or remove cookies. Some website features may function differently when cookies are limited.
How we use information
We may use information to:
- Respond to questions, applications, requests, proposals, complaints, or correction notices.
- Evaluate program interest, training needs, scholarship inquiries, volunteer roles, or partnership proposals.
- Administer confirmed registrations, classes, events, scholarships, sponsorships, donations, or volunteer activities.
- Process payments, donations, refunds, receipts, and financial records.
- Communicate about program status, schedules, requirements, safety information, organizational updates, or requested follow-up.
- Maintain nonprofit, tax, accounting, banking, donor, grant, attendance, program, and operational records.
- Comply with legal, contractual, insurance, safety, reporting, or funding requirements.
- Prevent fraud, misuse, unauthorized access, or threats to participants, systems, or property.
- Improve educational resources, website usability, communications, outreach, and internal processes.
- Develop aggregated or de-identified reporting about activities and organizational progress.
Donations and payments
Online payments may be processed by WooCommerce, Stripe, Square, PayPal, an employer-giving platform, a grant platform, or another payment provider. The provider may collect payment-card or financial information under its own terms and privacy policy.
The Foundation generally receives transaction details needed to identify the payment, maintain records, issue an acknowledgment, respond to a dispute, administer an accepted restriction, or process an approved refund. We do not intentionally publish donor payment information.
A charitable contribution, registration payment, sponsorship, merchandise purchase, course payment, or other transaction may require different records. The description presented at checkout or on the receipt should identify the nature of the transaction.
Program, scholarship, and volunteer information
Program administration may require contact information, eligibility information, course details, attendance records, permissions, accommodation requests, emergency contacts, communications, or documentation connected to the activity.
A scholarship inquiry is not an award. Information submitted during an inquiry may be reviewed to determine whether available funding, eligibility, course suitability, timing, and charitable purpose align.
A volunteer inquiry is not an assignment. The Foundation may evaluate experience, qualifications, availability, conflicts, references, screening needs, supervision, and the responsibilities of a proposed role.
We seek to limit collection to information reasonably connected to the activity. Sensitive information should not be requested or submitted unless its need and handling have been confirmed.
Youth and children’s privacy
Youth programs may involve information about a minor participant and the participant’s parent or guardian. The Foundation may require parent or guardian contact information, permission, emergency contacts, attendance records, accommodation information, or other records appropriate to the activity.
Children should not independently submit sensitive personal information, payment information, medical records, identity documents, or applications intended for an adult without appropriate parent or guardian involvement.
Photographs, videos, testimonials, or identifiable stories involving a minor should be handled according to the permission and purpose connected to the activity.
How information may be shared
We may share information when reasonably necessary with:
- Employees, authorized volunteers, instructors, officers, or contractors who need the information for an approved Foundation responsibility.
- Payment processors, website hosts, software providers, email services, registration platforms, accountants, banks, insurers, or professional advisers.
- Schools, facilities, instructors, training providers, community organizations, sponsors, or partners involved in a confirmed activity.
- Government agencies, courts, law enforcement, regulators, funders, or other parties when disclosure is required or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, property, compliance, or the integrity of an investigation.
- A successor, reorganized organization, or service provider involved in an authorized transition, subject to appropriate protections.
We do not sell personal information to advertisers. Public acknowledgment of a donor, sponsor, volunteer, participant, instructor, or partner should occur only when appropriate and authorized.
Public reporting and de-identification
The Foundation may report aggregated or de-identified information concerning activities, such as the number of sessions, participants, scholarships, partners, volunteer hours, resources, or service areas.
Public reporting should avoid unnecessary identifying information. When a group is small or circumstances are unusual, removing a name may not be enough to prevent identification. The Foundation may combine categories, delay publication, or omit details to protect privacy.
Data retention
Retention periods vary according to the type of record, program, funding source, transaction, filing requirement, agreement, dispute, safety issue, insurance need, or legal obligation.
Some records may be kept for nonprofit, tax, accounting, donor, grant, payment, attendance, consent, insurance, or operational purposes. Other information may be deleted when it is no longer reasonably needed.
Not every unsolicited attachment, incomplete form, inquiry, or communication must be retained permanently.
Data security
The Foundation uses reasonable administrative, technical, and physical practices appropriate to its size and activities. No website, email system, payment method, file transfer, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
Access should be limited according to organizational responsibility. Sensitive information should not be transmitted or stored merely because it might be useful later.
Please contact the Foundation promptly if you believe information connected to your interaction has been accessed or disclosed improperly.
Your choices and requests
You may ask to:
- Correct inaccurate contact information.
- Stop receiving optional communications.
- Clarify how information connected to a specific request or transaction is being used.
- Request deletion of information when retention is not required for legal, financial, contractual, safety, grant, insurance, or operational reasons.
- Raise a privacy concern or report a suspected unauthorized disclosure.
A request should identify the person, communication, transaction, activity, or record involved. The Foundation may need to verify identity or authority before changing or releasing information.
External websites and embedded services
This website may link to government agencies, training providers, payment processors, social-media platforms, grant systems, employer-giving programs, or other organizations. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.
A link does not mean that the Foundation controls the outside service or guarantees its security, accuracy, accessibility, availability, or continued operation.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when programs, technology, service providers, legal requirements, or organizational practices change. The effective date at the top of the page will identify the current public version.
