Terms of Use and Program Policies

Effective date: July 11, 2026

About Red Tape Foundation

Red Tape Foundation is a nonprofit organization recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation provides educational, preparedness, administrative-support, and compliance-access programs consistent with its charitable purposes.

Website information

Website content is provided for general educational and administrative purposes. It is not legal, tax, accounting, financial, or professional advice and does not create an attorney-client, accountant-client, fiduciary, or other professional relationship.

California Registered Agent Support Program

The program provides a California point of contact for receipt of service of process and certain official notices, notification to the authorized client contact, secure intake and document-upload tools, and administrative account support.

Checkout alone does not activate an appointment. The applicant must complete the requested intake, provide accurate information, take any filing or signature actions required of the entity, and receive confirmation that the Foundation’s program record is ready. The applicant remains responsible for correctly designating the agent in applicable government records.

Program rates and provisional eligibility

The standard annual program fee is $120. Eligible nonprofits may receive a $60 annual rate, and approved financial-hardship participants may receive a $45 annual rate. Limited fee waivers may be available when funding permits.

Questionnaire results are provisional. Red Tape Foundation may request reasonable supporting proof after checkout. Applicants must provide accurate information and cooperate with a reasonable review. The Foundation will not request Social Security numbers, complete banking credentials, medical records, passwords, or unrelated sensitive information for ordinary rate verification.

If a reduced rate cannot be confirmed, the Foundation may approve another rate, request payment of the difference before activation or continued service, offer cancellation, or issue a refund when required by the refund policy.

Current customers and paid terms

A customer who already paid for a registered-agent term remains protected through the end of that paid term, subject to the service terms applicable when purchased. A future renewal may use the standard rate or an approved reduced rate communicated for the new term.

Renewals

Program fees apply to an annual term. Unless checkout expressly states that a recurring subscription is being created, payment is not automatically renewed. The Foundation may send renewal notices or invoices before the recorded renewal date. Continued service for a new term requires timely payment and any requested account update or eligibility review.

Failure to renew does not itself change the agent listed in government records. The entity is responsible for appointing a replacement agent and filing the required change before service ends.

Client responsibilities

  • Provide complete, current, and accurate entity and contact information.
  • Maintain an email address and phone number that are regularly monitored.
  • Promptly review notices and documents sent by the Foundation.
  • Meet all legal, tax, regulatory, filing, payment, and response deadlines.
  • Notify the Foundation of changes to ownership, contacts, addresses, status, or the authorized representative.
  • Use the secure portal for requested documents and avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information.

Service limitations

Red Tape Foundation does not provide legal representation, litigation services, deadline calculation, legal analysis, tax advice, state filing guarantees, mail forwarding, or a general business address unless a separate written service expressly provides it.

The Foundation is not responsible for a client’s failure to maintain accurate contact information, monitor communications, respond to documents, complete filings, pay government fees, obtain professional advice, or take actions required by law.

Payments

Payments are processed through third-party payment providers. The payer authorizes the selected payment provider to process the displayed amount. Program checkout and donation checkout may share the same secure website payment infrastructure, but a program fee is not a charitable donation.

Refunds and cancellations

The Refund and Cancellation Policy is incorporated into these terms. A full refund is generally available when the Foundation declines an application before activation. After activation, annual program fees are generally not prorated or refunded except when required by law or approved because of a Foundation error or exceptional circumstance.

A cancellation request does not remove or replace the agent shown in government records. The entity remains responsible for filing the required change and ensuring that another qualified agent is in place.

Documents and privacy

Use of the website and program is also governed by the Privacy Policy. Secure portal links are account-specific and must not be posted publicly or shared with unauthorized people.

Acceptable use

Users may not misuse the website, attempt unauthorized access, upload malicious files, submit false information, interfere with service, impersonate another person or organization, or use the program for unlawful activity.

Changes

The Foundation may update these terms for future use of the website or future program terms. Changes do not retroactively shorten a term already paid for unless required by law or agreed in writing.
